A Trained Commissioner is an Effective Commissioner
The College of Commissioner Science is a monthly series of classes offered by the Las Vegas Area Council Commissioner. These classes range from basic through advanced learning programs in unit service. The goal of this experience is to promote increased effectiveness of individual commissioners.
This ongoing training opportunity will benefit new commissioners and experienced commissioners alike. Any adult leader who is interested in learning about the numerous resources available through the scoutng movement is invited to attend.
A NEW APPROACH FOR 2017
In years past, the council has offered College of Commissioner Science training in conjunction with the University of Scouting. This year, to offer more flexibility to the Commissioner Corps, a monthly series of courses will be offered between January and May 2017 at the Donald W. Reynolds Scouting Resource Center. The Commissioner’s Conference will be held January 17, 2017, featuring guest speaker Charles W. Dahlquist II, BSA National Commissioner. Following the Commissioner’s Conference, once per month, a total of six courses will be offered, two in the Bachelors, two in the Masters and two in the Roundtable Bachelor programs, (see class matrix). No advanced registration is required, simply show up for the desired class on the date and time listed and sign in at the door.
Although no fee is required for training courses, a $20 processing fee will be assessed for those commissioners who complete the required courses and wish to register their degree with the BSA.
For commissioners who have already earned a Master’s degree in the College of Commissioner
Science and wish to pursue a Doctorate degree, training is done by appointment only. Please contact Joseph Schaffer for further information on this process.
