WHAT IS OUTREACH?

OutReach is a program within the Las Vegas Area Council, Boy Scouts of America (BSA) that aims to provide Scouting opportunities to underserved communities and youth who face economic, social, and geographic barriers to traditional Scouting participation. It is part of BSA's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The OutReach program focuses on reaching out to communities with limited access to Scouting, including urban areas, rural communities, and low-income neighborhoods. It seeks to remove obstacles that may prevent youth from joining Scouting, such as financial constraints or a lack of nearby Scouting units.

OutReach works through partnerships with community-based organizations, schools, churches, and other institutions to establish Scouting units and deliver the program to youth who may not otherwise have the opportunity to participate. It often involves recruiting and training adult volunteers from within the community to serve as leaders and mentors for the OutReach units, as well as providing paid program aides to deliver the program.

The program provides a modified Scouting experience tailored to the specific needs and circumstances of the communities it serves. While the core values and principles of Scouting remain the same, the program may be adapted to accommodate cultural, geographic, or other considerations.

Through OutReach, the Las Vegas Area Council, BSA aims to ensure that Scouting is accessible and inclusive to all young people, regardless of their background or circumstances. It strives to empower youth with character development, leadership skills, and valuable experiences that can positively impact their lives and communities.

AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

OutREACH programs are delivered after the school day at underprivileged schools by two of the Las Vegas Area Council’s Program Managers and with the help of the school staff. Each program is customized to the needs of the school or organization. Programs take place according to the schools calendar and are run from September to May.

TRADITIONAL PROGRAMS

Traditional OutREACH units function like our traditional units. They are financially supported by the council with assistance for registration fees, uniforms, books, and scholarships for camps and activities. A paid Scout Leader works with parent volunteers to provide the support and assistance to these programs.

ADVENTURE SCOUTS

The Goal of Adventure Scouts is simple, to make it possible for all interested families to participate in their own communities and build a roadmap for future integration, acceptance, compassion, and most importantly, inclusion for Scouts living with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).
