For 110 years The Boy Scouts of America has demonstrated “Duty to Others” with selfless service to our communities and especially those in need.  The Las Vegas Area Council, Boy Scouts of America (BSA), has a long partnership with the Salvation Army for our annual Scouting For Food Campaign.    The Salvation Army Southern Nevada’s service to the Las Vegas valley and beyond, their food pantries are being depleted.  Even the 135,000 pounds of food collected by our Scouts in mid-November has been given to families, many of whom have been affected by COVID-19 closures and layoffs.  They are asking for our help.  A call to action for our Scouts.

We have organized a weekly, one-day Scouting for Food Drive beginning Wednesday, April 22, 2020 and ending Wednesday, May 13, 2020.

With this new version of Scouting for Food, Scouting for Food 2.0, donors will be able to make a “no touch” drop off.  Food will be dropped-off at the Las Vegas Area Council office at 7220 S. Paradise Road, Las Vegas, NV 89119, each Wednesday beginning April 22, 2020, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and ending on Wednesday, May 13, 2020.  Las Vegas Area Council representatives will take the donations out of the cars as they come through and sort them for delivery to The Salvation Army’s Henderson Food Pantry.  The food will also be shared with the organization’s Pahrump and Mesquite pantries as needed.

If any of our Volunteers Leaders, Scouts and families can help, we are looking for donations of the following items:

  • Vegetables (cans)
  • Beans (dry or cans)
  • Soups
  • Tomatoes (cans)
  • Dry Goods
  • Canned Meats
  • Water (cases)
  • Granola Bars (boxes/cases)
  • Cheese/Crackers packets (boxes/cases)
  • Peanut butter/crackers packets (boxes/cases)
  • Individually packaged 1 oz. chips (any type, boxes/cases)
  • Individually packaged cookies (2 pack, any type, boxes/cases)
  • Individually packaged Trail mix (boxes/cases)
  • Individually packaged fruit gummies (boxes/cases)

We appreciate the opportunity to “Do a Good Turn” for the Salvation Army.  We will be following the third Scout Law – A Scout is Helpful.  We look forward to keeping our long partnership with the Salvation Army going during this difficult time for all.
